Today, the surrounding park is lively each morning with locals practicing tai chi, dancing, or playing traditional instruments, providing a window into Beijing’s daily life.

Next, travel to the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall, an incredible feat of ancient engineering built to defend China’s northern borders from nomadic invasions. The two-hour drive leads you to this well-preserved Wall, with origins dating back to the Northern Qi Dynasty (550–577).
